AUGUST 2018

All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.
— Walter E. Disney

Occasionally in life, the stars align…and you have that incredible spine-tingling moment of seeing your dreams come true.  Some people refer to this as ‘being lucky’, but I’ve always been a firm believer that luck is best defined as ‘hard work meets opportunity’.  From my experience, hard work alone will never turn your dreams into reality.  You also have to actively seek the opportunities.  This means taking risks, putting yourself out there, being prepared to fail and undoubtedly making some mistakes along the way.  I am pleased to say that August has delivered this delicious moment several times over and I have had the pleasure of seeing my hard work and opportunity seeking pay off and come to fruition!

The most exciting news for me personally is…that I have an agent!  Her name is Julie McGowan (SAFA) and she is clever, good fun and passionate about her work, so I look forward to working with her and can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.  At the moment I am busy getting new headshots (I have a new haircut!) and updating my showreel, so watch this space for the Big Reveal.

My other piece of good news this month is…that my audition for SAFA was successful and I was offered a place in the premium acting class, so thank you for keeping your fingers crossed for me and sending good vibes my way.  When I studied in New York at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts my acting instructor, Jody Wood, advised that I join an acting class when I returned to Scotland, as it was his opinion that the only way to stay fresh and limber (in acting terms) was to keep practising with like-minded people.  This is very sound advice as it is important to keep stretching yourself artistically and a good acting class is a safe place to do this.  If you want to find out more about SAFA, you can click on the link here https://www.screenactingfilmacademy.co.uk

Consequently, August has been a fantastic month for me but not every month is like this.  So, if August hasn’t been your month, just remember that everyone has ups and downs, busy times and quiet times, productive days and unproductive days, laughter and tears.  That is life.  Made all the more intense if you’re pursuing a career in acting.  It takes a great deal of courage to put yourself out there day after day and deal with the rejection but we wouldn’t put ourselves through the torture if we didn’t love it, would we?

So work hard, go seek those opportunities and make yourself lucky!
