AUGUST 2017

When people ask me if I went to film school, I tell them ‘No, I went to films’

August has been a magnificent month for film festivals…

Film Festival Selections this month

Film Festival Selections this month

Fortress has been officially selected in this year’s Wales International Film Festival;

Fran and The Moth had it’s UK premiere at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s Nightpiece Film Festival; and

Max Payne: Retribution has been selected in Oniros Film Awards Best Fan Film Category.

So, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for some new laurels (albeit crossed fingers makes typing this update pretty tricky!)

August has also been a mammoth month for successful castings…

Celebrating at Tom Kitchin's Scran & Scallie.,,Slàinte!

A few months ago I submitted a self-taped audition for a fantastic new TV series called Armchair Detectives which has been developed by Tiger Aspect Productions and will be televised on BBC One.  So you can imagine my surprise and delight when I got an email via Spotlight offering me the role.  I can’t wait to share more details but in the meantime I will sit tight (jeez, keeping my fingers crossed and sitting tight…September’s going to be tough!)

One of the loveliest things that happened to me this month was to be offered a role without an audition.  This was as a result of having worked with the writer before on another film and I am so excited to start filming his latest film.  He is such a talent and so the story is fantastic and the character I’m playing is really interesting - I cannot wait to bring her to life.

However, not one to rest on my laurels, I have continued to keep busy putting lots of applications forward and sending out self-taped auditions.  So far, so good.  I’ve been cast in one of the films and I’m “Under Consideration” for 2 more.

August also brought new skills…

I am delighted to share with you the exciting news that I passed the British Academy of Stage & Screen’s Rapier & Dagger course, thanks to my ever-patient fight coach Janet Lawson from Stage Fight Scotland.  Not without some pain and suffering, mind you.  We trained 8 hours a day for 5 days straight plus 4 hours on the day of the exam, and on the second day of training an old elbow injury flared up.  Thankfully my acupuncturist, the fabulous Paula from Health Rediscovered, was able to fit me in at short notice and so after a couple of sessions including cupping, my sword arm was as good as new.  The cupping, however, left some tell-tale signs, à la Michael Phelps' Rio Olympics campaign.  As my scene partner put it, I looked as if I’d been attacked by an octopus.

Big loves and huge thank you’s this August...
